A very interesting tool, which was designed to improve the servicing of high grade wrist watches during the removal, cleaning, oiling, winding and inserting mainspring process and I understand it does work. Still others say that mainsprings are cheap in comparison of the cost of servicing these watches and should be replaced each time the watch is serviced. Since modern mainsprings come pre-lubricated and all coiled up the only thing a watchmaker needs to do is to clean and oil the barrel and then press in a new spring. Still when a new spring is not available you will be able to do a good job on the old spring, when you have this tool.
